Mechanism for terrace blinds - how does the system work and how do you build a terrace yourself with wood or aluminium?
Mechanism for terrace blinds is a solution that allows you to enclose your terrace, balcony or gazebo yourself with movable wooden or aluminium slats.
Are you planning to enclose your terrace with blinds, but don't know how to go about it? Are you looking for a system that will allow you to assemble your own moving wood or aluminium blinds? In this post, I'll explain what a patio blind mechanism is, how it works and what you'll need to create your own terrace, balcony or gazebo enclosure.
What is a mechanism for terrace blinds?
The mechanism for terrace blinds is what is colloquially known as the 'moving board mechanism'. Thanks to it you can make your own installation of terrace cladding with movable blinds, made of wooden planks or aluminium slats.
It is a simple system of handles that mounted vertically or horizontally. You insert the boards or slats into the brackets and you're done - your blinds are movable and allow you to adjust the angle.
The mechanism works exactly like classic blinds - you can tilt and close them, depending on how much light you want to let into the terrace or how much you need to shield yourself from the wind.
What does the system for installing external planks and slats consist of?
The mechanism consists of a set of brackets (guides) for OpenUpSystem external moving blinds - left and right for the construction of the blinds.
Basic information:
- Handle dimensions: 9.8 x 2 x 58.2 cm
- Fits 9.8 x 2 cm timber boards or 9.9 x 1.95 cm aluminium fins
- For vertical or horizontal mounting (vertical installation is only possible for aluminium lamellas)
- 5 colours: black, anthracite, white, dark brown, light brown
– Polish product, resistant to humidity and temperature
Where can you use movable boards and laths?
The system is most commonly used for:
- terrace buildings
- balcony build-ups
- arbour development
- building of pergolas or shelters
See examples of realisations in our gallery.
How does the mechanism for patio blinds work?
The whole system allows smooth rotation of the slats mounted in the brackets. You set them in any position - they can be fully closed, tilted or open. When installed correctly, the mechanism is durable and light to handle. It works like classic blinds, but offers greater freedom of arrangement.
How does it work? You mount the brackets, screw the wooden boards or aluminium laths into them and you're done! You can freely adjust their angle, deciding how much light enters the terrace. Importantly, the mechanism fits both wooden boards with a cross-section of 9.8 x 2 cm and aluminium lamellas with a cross-section of 9.9 x 1.95 cm.
Assembly of the mechanism is straightforward. See the instructional video: click here.

How do I look after the OpenUpSystem mechanism and handles?
